Short answer
A replica Gucci bag resells for a small share of its purchase price. Asking prices for new 1:1 replicas run about $80 to $300. Used replicas change hands for $30 to $120 in most listings. Legal status in the US
Gucci holds registered trademarks on the GG monogram, the green-red-green web stripe, and the Dionysus clasp. US law treats the sale of goods carrying these marks as counterfeiting when Gucci did not make the goods.
18 U.S.C. Section 2320 sets federal penalties. A first offense carries up to 10 years in prison and a $2 million fine for an individual. A second offense raises the maximums to 20 years and $5 million.
Trademark owners sue under the Lanham Act, 15 U.S.C. Section 1114. Statutory damages run from $1,000 to $200,000 per mark per type of good. A court can raise the award to $2 million when the use is willful. Courts can also award attorney fees to the winning side.
Platform rules
- eBay: counterfeit and replica items are banned. Listings get pulled. Repeat accounts get suspended.
- Poshmark, Mercari, Depop: same ban. Gucci items go through authentication review.
- The RealReal, Fashionphile: authenticate every item. Replicas are returned or destroyed.
- Facebook Marketplace, OfferUp: ban counterfeit goods. Enforcement depends on user reports.
A suspended account can lose pending payouts. Payment processors can freeze funds tied to a disputed sale.
Import and shipping
US Customs and Border Protection can seize counterfeit bags at the border under 19 U.S.C. Section 1526(e). CBP destroys the goods and tells the trademark owner. A limited personal-use exemption covers one item of each type in a traveler's luggage. The exemption does not cover goods meant for resale.
Resale value, replica versus authentic
Authentic Gucci bags recover about half of retail on resale sites for common models. Condition, model, and included paperwork move the number. Replica bags have no floor. Buyers discount for legal risk, no serial number lookup, no Gucci repair service, and no authentication. A bag bought for $200 often lists at $50 and sells lower.
What buyers check before paying
- Serial number tag and its font.
- Stitch count per inch on the seam.
- Hardware weight and engraving depth.
- Dust bag print and box labels.

No agency publishes the size of the US replica resale market. Gucci does not release counterfeiting counts. Seller income from replica resale is not tracked in public data.
