A replica designer auction sells handbags that copy luxury brands. Lots go to the highest bidder, often with a reserve price and a buyer's premium added to the hammer price. How bidding works

Ask for hardware weight in grams, stitch count per inch, lining material, and photos of the exact unit in the lot.
Checks before you bid
- Photos: request a dated photo of the actual bag, not a stock image.
- Hardware: brass or steel with weight. Check how logos are stamped.
- Stitching: luxury houses run 8 to 10 stitches per inch.
- Returns: get the return window and who pays return freight in writing.
- Payment: escrow, card, or platform wallet. A wire transfer gives you no chargeback.
- Seller history: completed lots, dispute count, account age.
Legal status in the US
US Customs and Border Protection seizes goods that carry counterfeit marks at ports of entry, and 19 U.S.C. § 1526 bars their import. 18 U.S.C. § 2320 sets prison terms of up to 10 years for trafficking in counterfeit goods. 15 U.S.C. § 1114 covers trademark infringement in civil suits. Auction sites enforce their own rules on top of the statutes. eBay bans counterfeit goods, and a listing that uses a brand name can be removed after one report.
If a lot goes wrong
File a dispute with the platform first. Keep the listing text, photos, and chat logs. If you paid by card, open a chargeback with your issuer. Wire and crypto payments have no reversal path. Report seized shipments to the port office that sent the notice.
