The short answer

Most fake Loewe bags give themselves away in four places: the leather grain, the embossed logo, the hardware weight, and the interior stamping. If the bag is a Puzzle, add panel alignment. If it is a Hammock, check the gusset fold. The box and dust bag mean nothing, since those get copied in a week.

No single detail settles it. You want three or four tells that line up before you decide.

Leather and grain

Loewe classic calfskin has a soft, waxy hand and a grain that shifts across a panel. Fakes use an embossed grain that repeats in a perfect grid and feels coated. Press a thumbnail into the leather. Real calfskin lightens and springs back. Split leather with a plastic finish stays flat or creases hard.

Smell counts too. Leather smells like leather. Most copies smell like glue or vinyl, and the smell sits heaviest at the interior seams.

Logo and embossing

The Loewe mark is four interlocking Ls. On a genuine bag the stamp sits deep and crisp with clean interior corners. Copies drift on the geometry: the Ls touch where they should not, the letters look shallow, or the spacing wanders. On the Anagram hardware, the four Ls are cut through the metal, not printed on the surface.

Hardware and zippers

Feel the weight first. Authentic hardware is solid brass, cold and dense in the hand. Copies use plated alloy that feels light and warms up fast. Next, the zipper pull. Loewe uses European zippers, Lampo on some lines and YKK on others, and the pull should glide with no catch. Look at the engraving on the pull and the plates. Laser etching reads thin and gray. Stamped engraving has depth and a sharp edge.

Stitching and edge paint

Stitch count per inch should hold steady around the whole bag. Copies tighten at corners or skip a stitch at the strap anchor. Edge paint on a real bag is thin, even, and close to the leather tone. Replicas slather it on. Run a fingernail along the edge. If it feels bumpy or gummy, stop there.

Interior details

Check the interior leather tag. It should be the same leather as the outside, not a cheaper split. The stamping should match the font weight of the exterior logo. Older Loewe bags carry a date code and a Made in Spain stamp. Newer models lean on an interior leather patch and, on some styles, a serial. A missing stamp is not proof on every model. A sloppy one is proof enough.

Model checks

  • Puzzle: the front panel is one folded piece. The diagonal seams meet at clean angles with no puckering, and the top flap keeps the right proportion.
  • Hammock: the side gussets fold flat against the body. Copies bulge.
  • Flamenco: the drawstring knots are hand-tied leather, not plastic cord or glue-stiffened string.
  • Woven and basket styles: weave tension stays even. Loose and tight patches mean poor machine QC.

Seller red flags

Price is the loudest signal. A current-season Puzzle does not sell for a fifth of retail, and neither does a Flamenco. Listings that say mirror quality or 1:1 are telling you what they are. Sellers who will not show a close-up of the interior stamp or the zipper pull tend to have a reason.

Watch for stock photos lifted from the brand site. Ask for a timestamped photo of the actual bag in hand.
