A fake Hermès Evelyne PM is a counterfeit copy of a Hermès shoulder bag. Hermès does not license the Evelyne design and does not sell replicas. Copies show uneven gaps, ragged edges, and a crossbar that sits off center. The panel should lie flat. A bulge around the H points to a thin lining or a machine cut.
Leather, grain, and smell
Most Evelyne PM bags ship in Taurillon Clemence, with Epsom and other leathers in some seasons. Clemence has a soft pebbled grain and a matte finish. Copies use split leather with a stamped grain, or a coated cloth. Press a corner. Clemence puckers and springs back. On a copy the surface slides and holds the crease. New Clemence smells of leather and tannin, not glue or plastic.
Stitching and hardware
Hermès uses a saddle stitch. Two needles cross through the same holes, so each stitch sits at an angle and the thread locks on both sides. Machine stitching runs flat and straight. Holes along the edge should line up under the stitch line. Hardware is plated brass or palladium over steel. Check the weight and the engraving. Strap hooks on a copy feel light and the plate finish flakes.
Blind stamp and date code
Hermès heat stamps the bag with HERMÈS PARIS and a blind stamp that names the artisan and the workshop. Look for the accent on the second E. A date code inside a square marks the year of make. Copies use the wrong font, a missing accent, wrong spacing, or a stamp pressed into the wrong panel. Position matters. The stamp sits on the back wall inside the bag, and the depth is even.
Strap, dust bag, and box
The strap is a woven canvas band with a leather tab and a metal slider on later models, and a fixed length on earlier ones. The ends are stitched on both sides. The dust bag is orange cloth with the logo. The box is orange with a lid that fits. Copies ship with a mismatched logo on the box, thin cloth, and a strap that twists.
Price and paperwork
An Evelyne PM sold for a few hundred dollars is a copy. A receipt, a certificate, and a 1:1 label are not proof. Counterfeit sellers print the same papers.
