Start with the legal facts
Counterfeit Gucci bags are illegal goods in the US. Customs and Border Protection can seize a parcel at the border and destroy it. The buyer gets no refund. Trafficking in counterfeit goods is a federal crime under 18 U.S.C. § 2320. A first offense carries up to 10 years in prison and a $2 million fine for an individual. Single personal-use orders seldom lead to charges, but the parcel is still forfeited. Sellers do not refund a seized order unless their terms say so in writing.
Parameters that set the tier
Leather and canvas
Ask for macro photos of the grain, the edge paint and the interior lining. GG Supreme canvas has a defined pattern repeat. A blurry print and thick edge paint point to a low tier. Full-grain cowhide costs more than split leather with a plastic coat.
Stitching
Count stitches per inch on a photo of the flap seam. Gucci production runs 8 to 10 stitches per inch on most models. Long gaps and slanting rows show in a close photo.
Hardware
Ask for the weight of one chain link in grams. Light hardware flexes and loses plating in weeks. Check the engraving depth on the interlocking GG logo and the magnet strength on the closure.
Serial tag and packaging
Most Gucci models carry a serial number on a leather tag inside the interior pocket. Ask the seller for a photo of the tag front and back. Dust bag, box and cards add weight. That weight raises shipping cost and seizure risk on a large order.
Price bands in the replica market
- Under $60: PU leather, plastic hardware, loose stitching.
- $80 to $180: cowhide or coated canvas, steel hardware, machine stitching.
- $200 to $450: the 1:1 tier with custom hardware and hand-finished edges.
Prices move with stock. Ask for the current price list and the model number before you pay.
Payment and shipping pitfalls
- Zelle, Western Union and crypto leave no chargeback path.
- Ask for the reship policy on a customs seizure in writing.
- Ask for a tracking number and the declared value on the customs form.
- Confirm the size in cm against the brand spec sheet.
Inspect on arrival
Photograph the parcel before you open it. Check the stitch count, the hardware weight and the serial tag against the seller's photos. Report a mismatch inside the dispute window. Keep the packaging until the case closes.
