Short answer
Fake Gucci accessories are items built to look like Gucci products without permission from Gucci or its owner, Kering. The group covers belts, wallets, card holders, keychains, sunglasses, scarves, hats, socks, and phone cases. Street prices run from about $8 to $80. Real Gucci accessories start near $200 for a card holder and $450 for the GG Marmont belt. Gucci does not license these goods to third parties.
Which items get copied
The copied items share one trait: a visible logo. Gucci marks that appear on accessories include the interlocking double G, the green red green Web stripe, the GG monogram canvas, and the Gucci script. Belts and wallets carry the most copies because the logo sits on the outside where people see it.

How to check one
- Read the stamp. Real Gucci leather goods have a gold foil or blind stamp that reads GUCCI made in Italy. Letters sit on one line with even spacing.
- Find the serial number. It sits on the back of the leather tag inside. The number has two parts split by a space. Gucci publishes no public database, so no buyer can confirm a number online.
- Weigh the hardware. Real buckles and clasps use solid brass with a gold tone. Copies use zinc alloy with plating that flakes at the corners.
- Count the stitches. Real pieces run 8 to 10 stitches per inch on visible seams. Copies run 5 to 7 and drift at curve edges.
- Check the price. A new Gucci belt under $100 is not real. Resale sites price used Gucci belts at $150 to $350.
Price gap
Gucci sets prices high on purpose. A canvas belt retails near $300. A leather belt sits at $450. Sunglasses run $280 to $500. Copies sell at 3 to 10 percent of those numbers. The gap comes from materials: coated canvas and full grain leather versus PU plastic and split leather.
US law
Selling counterfeit goods is a federal crime under 18 U.S.C. 2320. A first offense carries up to 10 years in prison and a $2 million fine for an individual. The Lanham Act allows statutory damages up to $2 million per counterfeit mark per type of goods when the use is willful. CBP can seize and destroy shipments at the border. Buying one item for personal use is not prosecuted in most cases. Reselling is.
