What People Mean by "Fake Dior Bag"
A fake Dior bag is any bag presented as Dior that Dior did not make or authorize. That covers a $40 street-market Saddle and a $600 "1:1 mirror" Lady Dior sold through a chat-app catalog. In US legal terms both are counterfeits, even though sellers prefer softer words like replica, mirror, or inspired. When I look at a bag, the label the seller uses tells me less than the bag itself does.
The Tiers You'll Run Into
Replica sellers sort stock by price band, and those bands are real. What changes between them is leather grade, hardware weight, and how much time someone spent matching a pattern.
- Budget tier ($30 to $90). PU or split leather, hollow hardware, glue smell, loose stitching. Cannage quilting almost never lines up with the seams.
- Mid tier ($100 to $250). Better leather and decent hardware, but the engraving is shallow and the interior stamp uses the wrong font.
- "1:1" or mirror tier ($300 to $700 and up). The closest copy. Real calfskin in some cases, correct hardware plating, hand-finished edges. Still a copy, and still illegal to import.
Where Fakes Give Themselves Away
Most tells are physical, not paperwork.
- Hardware. Dior charms have weight. Fakes feel light and tinny, and the lettering on the "CD" charm is often a touch too wide or etched without depth.
- Quilting. On a Lady Dior the cannage pattern should sit symmetric and should not get pinched at the side panels.
- Stitching. Count it. Genuine bags run a tight, even stitch. Fakes drift, especially near the handle base.
- Interior. The "Christian Dior Paris" stamp should be crisp. Date code format and placement changed over the years, so an odd code is not proof on its own, but a smeared one usually is.
- Smell and hand feel. Glue and plastic is the fastest signal there is.
- Packaging. Dust bags, cards, and receipts are easy to copy. A perfect box means nothing.

Embroidery density is the tell. Fakes use fewer, thicker threads and the logo lettering loses its sharp edges.
Why Receipts and Cards Mean Nothing
I have watched people pay a premium for a "Dior receipt." Paper is the cheapest thing in the world to reproduce, and so are authenticity cards. Buy the bag, not the story.
The Legal Side in the US
Trafficking in counterfeit goods carries criminal penalties under 18 U.S.C. 2320, and US Customs and Border Protection can seize counterfeit merchandise at the border. There is no reliable personal-use exemption for a single counterfeit bag, even in your own luggage. Dior sits inside LVMH, and the brand's legal team stays busy.

- Ask for close-up photos of the charm, the interior stamp, and the stitching at the handle base.
- Compare measurements against the official spec. Copies often land a few millimeters off.
- Pay with a method that has a dispute process.
